WHEN STAND-UP GOT STOOD UP
The story of
LAST COMIC STANDING
On Monday February 11 I was invited to the Comedy Connection to audition for "an agent on the west coast." They told us the agency was going to film the show but only the audio was going to be shipped to the west coast. There were 12 other Boston headliner comics there and at the end of the night we were all asked to come up on stage for a surprise. Out of the audience sprang Bill Bellamy, the host of Last Comic Standing. "Surprise!," he told us, "You've just all auditioned for Last Comic Standing. Now the first guy we're going to send to the next round is Mike Donovan!" So now I'm a part of the NBC show Last Comic Standing having won a preliminary round in Boston. Paul Nardizzi was the other winner and we'll be flying somewhere soon for the next round. It all happened fast and none of us had any idea what was going on until it was already done. update; Two weeks later NBC called us up and said that they've decided to "drop the Boston segment." We weren't going on to the next round after all. Paul and I retired from the Last Comic Standing compteition undefeated at one and 0.
I'll be hosting the open night at Quigley's pub every Tuesday this summer. Thursdays look for me at the Showcase Cinema comedy club, being run by none other than Boston City Councilor and comedy fan extraordinaire, John Tobin.
July 22 will be my tenth wedding anniversary.
